SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – For the
second time this season,
Tess Heal has been named the
West Coast Conference Player of the Week. Heal helped the Broncos to a 65-55 win
at Arizona State last week with a game-high 23 points and added seven rebounds, three assists, and two blocks.
Â
Heal leads the Broncos with 17.5 ppg and 4.4 apg. Her 263 total points are No.23 in the country. Her 79 free throws made are second nationally and her 87 attempts are sixth. She is shooting 90.8-percent from the charity stripe, 17th in the country.
Â
The victory was Santa Clara's 12th of the year. The 12 nonconference wins are tied for the most in program history with the 1990-91 team that finished 28-3 and won both the WCC and the WNIT.
Â
It was also their second win over a Pac-12 team this season. The last time they had two wins over Pac-12 teams in a season was 1993-94 (then the Pac-10). It was also their first time beating a pair of Power 5 teams since 2015-16, the last time they made the postseason. They finished that year 23-9 and made the WNIT.
Â
The Broncos begin WCC action Saturday at 2 p.m. against Pacific. You can get tickets
