No. 7 Women's Soccer Blows By Pacific 5-0

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – It was a dominant performance for No. 7 Santa Clara women's soccer in a 5-0 win over Pacific Saturday afternoon. The scoring got going early for the Broncos (10-2-2, 4-0-1 WCC) who never gave the Tigers (2-12-1, 0-5 WCC) any room to get into the match.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The conference's leading scorer Kennedy Schoennauer got on the board with her 10th of the season in the third minute. She took a couple touches in the box and hit her shot inside the right post.
  • It was 2-0 in the ninth on the first career goal for Ava Weiland. She bumped into a Pacific defender and took the ball away in the box before beating the keeper.
  • Right out of halftime, Sally Menti got on the board off an assist from Lucy Mitchell. Mitchell got to the end line and tapped the ball to Menti at the edge of the six-yard box and she finished the chance.
  • Marissa Vasquez scored the fourth of the day in the 67th. A ball over the top was tapped was passed to Weiland who one-timed it to Vasquez at the top of the 18. After a turn, she slipped it inside the left post.
  • The scoring wrapped-up in the 82nd with the first of the year from Lia Henkelmann. Leah O'Brien found a streaking Henkelmann in the box and after a touch she finished far post.
 
NOTABLE NUMBERS:
  • Santa Clara outshot Pacific 29-2 and 17-2 in shots on target. The advantage was 17-2 in the first half and 12-0 in the second.
  • The Broncos also drew nine corners while surrendering just one.
  • Marlee Nicolos made two saves in 59 minutes of action with Lauren Zontos coming on for the final 31.
  • Sierra Schwarz allowed four goals with nine saves in 67 minutes of action. Hannah McFarlane allowed a goal and had a save in 23 minutes.
  • A total of 23 players saw minutes for Santa Clara, including Kylie Stiles. It was the collegiate debut for Stiles who has missed two-plus years with injury.
