No. 10 Women's Soccer and Washington State Play to Draw

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – In a tough battle, No. 10 Santa Clara women's soccer played to a 1-1 draw with Washington State on Wednesday night. The Cougars (5-5-6, 2-2-3) got on the board early with the Broncos (10-2-3, 4-0-2) evening things up later in the half with both teams creating chances but coming up empty in the final 45 minutes.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • In the fourth minute, a corner taken by Reagan Kotschau found the head of Reese Tappan and ended up in the back of the net.
  • Things were evened up in the 28th. Kat Jordan passed to Colby Barnett who slid a ball through to Marissa Vasquez. She finished inside the far post.
  • The biggest play of the game came in the 64th. A penalty in the box was called against the Broncos setting up a golden opportunity for the Cougars but Grayson St. Lynch sent the chance wide of the right post to keep the game tied.
 
NOTABLE NUMBERS:
  • Santa Clara held the slight edge 13-12 in shots and 3-2 in shots on goal.
  • The Broncos also had the advantage 5-4 in corner kicks.
  • Nicolos finished the night with one save.
  • Nadia Cooper had two saves for Washington State.
