Broncos Fall In Back-and-Forth Battle at LMU

Los Angeles - The Santa Clara women's volleyball team fell to the LMU Lions 3-0 on Saturday, Nov. 16 at the Gersten Pavilion in Los Angeles. The Broncos were led by Elena Radeff, recording her first double-double of the year with 12 kills and 11 digs, her third straight game with double figures in kills.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • LMU (21-4, 13-1) took a 9-6 lead to open the first set, but the Broncos scored three in a row to tie the match at 9 after a kill from Grace Flanagan. However, the Lions scored three straight again to take a 12-9 lead. LMU scored five of six points to take a 19-13 lead. The Broncos cut it to 21-19 with a block from Grace Flanagan, but the Lions got the edge, taking the set 25-21.
  • The Lions took a 7-4 lead to open set two, and later 17-9 after six straight points. A kill by Elena Radeff cut it to 24-18, but the Lions scored the final point, taking set two 25-18.
  • The Broncos (8-16, 4-11) scored the first five points of set three, but the Lions battled back, tying the match at 5. Three straight Bronco points put them ahead 11-8, capped off by a kill from Grace Flanagan. Back-to-back kills from Layla Truitt put the Broncos up 15-11 heading into the media timeout. However, LMU answered, scoring three in a row to cut the lead to 17-16.
  • LMU tied it up at 18 after two straight points, but the Broncos regained the advantage, scoring three in a row to take a 21-18 lead. Four straight points from LMU gave them a 23-22 lead, but a kill by Elena Radeff tied it at 23. Both teams went back-and-forth with the Broncos fending off three straight Lions match points. However, LMU scored the final two points of the match to take the third set 30-28.
NOTABLE NUMBERS:
  • Elena Radeff had her first double-double of the year with 12 kills and a season high 11 digs, her third straight game of the season with double figures in kills.
  • Nive Tuileta (20) and Macy Hinshaw (13) posted double figures in assists for the 23rd and 15th time this season.
  • The Broncos fell to 0-2 against LMU this season.
