Women's Basketball Falls in Overtime Contest to UC Davis

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara women's basketball dropped an overtime contest 74-70 to UC Davis on Sunday. The Broncos (3-2) led most of the way, but the Aggies (3-3) stormed back late in the third and held on in overtime.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • UC Davis got out the gate quickly, hitting its first three shots before Santa Clara got going but once the Broncos did, they went on an 11-2 run, including a stretch of seven in a row to take a lead. After missing seven of eight shots, the Aggies knocked down a triple to make it a 13-12 Santa Clara lead after the first 10 minutes.
  • After the Aggies tied the score two-and-a-half minutes in the second quarter, the Broncos went on a 12-4 run to close out the half and take a 27-19 lead into the locker room. During the period, UC Davis was just 2-for-11 from the field and finished the first half at 29.92-percent from the field and 3-of-14 from deep.
  • The second half of the third quarter was a stretch of runs. After Davis scored five in a row to get within six, the Broncos answered with a 6-0 run to take a 12-point lead into the final two minutes of the period. The Aggies came right back with the final 10 points of the quarter, started by triples on back-to-back possessions, that made it just a 44-42 Santa Clara lead headed to the fourth.
  • UC Davis would get the lead out to four early in the fourth and hold the lead all the way to the 2:33 mark when Olivia Pollerd knocked down a triple. Kaya Ingram made a layup to put the Broncos back on top and one of two from the free throw line on the other end made it a one-point game. Ingram had a chance with two at the line but only converted one to make it a two-point lead with 14 seconds on the clock. Tova Sabel missed a 3-pointer on the ensuing possession but got her own rebound and Megan Norris made a layup to tie things up. Santa Clara couldn't find the winner in the final possession to send it to overtime at 61-all.
  • Tied at 70, Davis got two free throws after a foul on a rebound and converted both to take a two-point lead with 7.6 on the clock. Santa Clara missed their shot on the other end to seal it.
