Men's Tennis Handles UC Irvine 4-3

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara men's tennis made a clean sweep of the University of California system schools this weekend with a pair of 4-3 victories over UC Irvine on Sunday and over UC Davis a day earlier. 

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Santa Clara (4-1) won three singles matches and the doubles point to beat UC Irvine (4-2), 4-3. 
  • Up 3-2, Sebastian Buxman clinched the match on court three defeating Noah Zamora in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4. 
  • The Broncos trailed 2-1 but Tiago Boschmans downed Lawee Sherif 6-2, 6-3 on court six and No. 42-ranked Christian Lerby took care of Enrique Rico 6-3, 6-4 on court one to pull the team ahead 3-2.  It was Boschman's first dual match and win for the freshman.
  • Lerby and Buxman won both their doubles and singles matches. 
NEXT UP:
  • The Broncos head to Phoenix next week to face Grand Canyon on Friday and Utah State in a neutral site match on Saturday.
