Men's Tennis Edged Out by Utah State

PHOENIX – The Santa Clara men's tennis team was barely edged out by Utah State 4-3 as they were unable to close out the match after taking a 3-1 lead in a neutral site match at the Grand Canyon University Tennis Facility on Saturday.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Santa Clara (5-2) narrowly missed out on the doubles point when Utah State's top doubles team of Paardekooper and Pinheiro defeated Christian Lerby and Guillaume Dalmasso 7-6 (9-7) after the two schools split the first two doubles matches.  It was the first double loss of the dual match season by Lerby and Dalmasso.
  • The Broncos took the first three singles matches by Christian Lerby, Luca Lemaitre and Tiago Boschmans to hold a 3-1 advantage over Utah State.
  • Utah State (6-1) came back winning the final three singles matches, including two of them in three sets.
  • The match clincher came on court two when Paardekooper downed Dalmasso 7-6 (7-5), 3-6, 6-4.
NEXT UP:
  • The Broncos head to Florida next weekend to play South Florida on Saturday and Florida Gulf Coast University on Sunday.
