No. 66 Men's Tennis Downs No. 53 South Florida on the Road

TAMPA, Fla. – In a battle between two nationally ranked teams, No. 66 Santa Clara men's tennis came out on top over No. 53 South Florida on Alexander Watanabe Eriksson's 3-all match clincher. 

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Watanabe Eriksson came back from a set down to defeat Elijah Cham 1-6, 7-6 (7-4), 6-3 on court five to deliver the match clincher for Santa Clara (6-2). 
  • The Broncos got off to a strong start narrowly taking the doubles point and winning the first two singles matches to take a 3-0 lead on the team scoreboard.
  • However, South Florida (5-5) took the next three singles matches including a battle atop the lineup where No. 36-ranked Alvin Tudorica defeated No. 52-ranked Christian Lerby 1-6, 6-3, 7-5 to knot the team score at 3-all before Watanabe Eriksson's clincher.
  • In doubles play, the two teams split the first two matches as it came down to court two.  The Bronco tandem of Sebastian Buxman and Lukas Maskow clinched the doubles point with their 7-6 (7-5) win over Agustin Cuellar and T. Pavlekovich-Smith. 
  • Buxman continued his strong play in the singles portion picking up a straight-set victory over Pavlekovich-Smith on court three that was followed by Tiago Boschman's 6-4, 7-6 (9-7) triumph over Ben Hudson on court six.
