Broncos Fall Short On Day One of Harvard Invitational

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Santa Clara women's water polo team faced tough competition on the opening day of the Harvard Invitational. They narrowly lost an overtime match against La Salle (7-6)  and came up short against No. 18 Wagner (13-3, 1-0). Elle Fredrickson and Libby Slater each contributed two goals to the team's efforts on the day.

 

Game one -  La Salle 9, Santa Clara 8 OT

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

  • In the first period, the Broncos put up a strong defense, conceding only one goal.

  • Moving into the second period, Santa Clara got on the scoreboard, but La Salle managed to add two more goals. The third period saw the Broncos scoring three goals.

  • Elle Fredrickson wrapped up the match against La Salle with two goals, an assist, and a field block to her name.
     

Game two - No. 18 Wagner 12, Santa Clara 3

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The Broncos struggled against nationally ranked Wagner, with the Seahawks maintaining dominance throughout the match.

  • The first half concluded with the Broncos trailing 8-0.

  • Santa Clara managed to get on the scoreboard in the third period and added two more goals in the fourth. Slater contributed both of those goals, both coming in the fourth period.

The Broncos look forward to day two of the Harvard Invitational taking on No. 19 Harvard and Siena.
