SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Construction on a new, state-of-the-art practice facility for Santa Clara's men's and women's golf programs is officially underway. The facility – to be named the
Wipfler Family Golf Facility - is a $2.5 million project and will provide an on-campus home for both Bronco golf teams. The facility is expected to be completed by summer 2024.
Spanning over 5,700 square feet, the Wipfler Family Golf Facility is meticulously designed to meet the diverse needs of Santa Clara's golf programs. Featuring a team lounge area, two enclosed hitting bays, and an expansive artificial turf short game area, this facility will provide an unparalleled environment for players to hone their skills and elevate their game.
"The Wipfler Family Golf Facility is a game-changer for our golf programs," director of athletics Renee Baumgartner said. "Not only does it serve as a functional space for our student-athletes to excel, but it also stands as a testament to the unwavering support of our golf community towards achieving excellence. I'd like to express my sincere gratitude to the Wipfler Family, as well as many more Broncos who have contributed towards this project to make it a reality."
Located just beside Kerr Alumni Park and alongside El Camino Real, the facility will be connected to a 4,200 square foot short game area to be named the "McCarthy Short Game Area". Attached to the indoor facility via a large vertical-lift door, the area will feature green, fairway, rough and bunker artificial turf. It will allow Bronco student-athletes to hone their short game skills without having to leave campus, providing a crucial developmental opportunity.
Inside the Wipfler Family Golf Facility, Broncos will be able to relax and gather inside the Linda and Joe Bronson Team Lounge and Degheri Putt Lab. The team lounge offers a dedicated space for the student-athletes and includes a state-of-the-art putting lab, a study space and a full kitchen area. There are also two hitting bays that will be adjacent to the team room. Both will be equipped with state-of-the-art technology, including simulators, enabling personalized coaching and feedback to enhance player performance.
What others are saying about the Wipfler Family Golf Facility:
Andrew Larkin, Santa Clara Head Men's Golf Coach
"An on-campus facility will give us the final piece we need to build a nationally-competitive program. It will provide us with the showpiece to attract top talent, allow our players to have access to a place to develop their skill sets daily, and allow our golfers to truly have a home on campus among other Santa Clara teams."
Krystal Kelly, Santa Clara Head Women's Golf Coach
"Having our own facility that we can call home on campus would be an incredible boost for our program. Not only will this elevate our student-athlete experience enormously, it will allow us to take that next step in building our program into an elite destination for prospective student-athletes."
The Wipfler Family Golf Facility is fully funded by private donations, and opportunities are still available to secure a brick on the donor wall within the facility. Don't miss out on a unique opportunity to be an integral part of our men's and women's golf programs' pursuit of excellence. To date, over 25 Santa Clara men's golf alumni have contributed towards the facility, along with over 40 individual contributors. If you are interested in securing a brick, please contact Associate Athletic Director for Development, Cody Johnson at cjjohnson@scu.edu.
