No. 64 Men's Tennis Blanks San Francisco in WCC Opener

SAN FRANCISCO – No. 64-ranked Santa Clara men's tennis team blanked San Francisco 4-0 in the West Coast Conference opener on Saturday to extend their win streak to eight matches. 

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Arjun Honnappa secured Santa Clara's (13-2, 1-0 WCC) first conference win with a straight-set clincher over Roman Lafond 6-2, 6-3 on court six.
  • The Broncos also got singles victories from Luca Lemaitre and Guillaume Dalmasso.
  • After the Broncos won a pair of 6-4 doubles matches on courts three and one to pick up the doubles point, Lemaitre won his team-best 11th singles win over Giovanni Branchetti 6-1, 6-1 on court three for the first singles point for SCU. 
  • Dalmasso, playing atop the lineup for the third time in the last four matches, easily handled Moritz Hoffman 6-1, 6-4 to push the Broncos lead to 3-0 on the team scoreboard.
  • Honnappa's win was his third-straight.  
  • San Francisco dropped their overall record to 5-8 and 0-2 in the WCC.
NEXT UP:
  • The Broncos hosts Cal Poly on Tuesday in a makeup match from March 2 that was postponed due to rain.
