Softball Drops Series Finale to Idaho State

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara softball dropped the series finale to Idaho State 9-0 in a five inning run-rule game on Saturday after winning the first two games of the series the previous day. 

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Idaho State (18-17) scored in each inning and Taylor Fitzgerald tossed a five-inning shutout.
  • The Bengals were led by Alyssa Yee who went 3-for-3 with five RBI including a 2-run home run in the top of the first to jump start the offense. 
  • Paige Simpson homered in the second inning off Broncos starter Alaina Valdez.
  • Yee also had a sacrifice fly and a 2-RBI single in the fourth and fifth innings.  
  • Fitzgerald scattered four hits, walked one and struck out four to improve to 6-4.
  • The game had a 35 minute rain delay in the top of the fifth but Fitzgerald finished the game.
  • Valdez allowed five hits and five runs over 2 2/3 innings to drop to 3-2 on the year. 
  • Bailey McLaughlin had two hits for Santa Clara (18-12).
