Softball Falls to Southeastern on Thursday

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara softball dropped the first game of the two-game series against Southeastern Louisiana University 10-2 on Thursday night at the SCU Softball Stadium. 

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The Southeastern lineup pounded out 10 runs on 18 hits en route to a 10-2 victory.
  • Ten different hitters had a hit including six with multi hits, led by Maria Detillier and Lexi Johnson who each went 3-for-4.
  • Southeastern (28-7) got two runs in the second on RBI hits by Johnson and Colleen Kulivan off Bronco starter Alain Valdez.
  • Santa Clara (20-13) answered with a run in the home half of the second when Abigail Charpentier scored from third on a throwing error by the Lions catcher Bailey Krolczyk.
  • However, Southeastern scored three runs in the third to extend their lead to 5-1, with two of the runs coming off the bat of Maddie Watson on a single.
  • The Lions opened the game up in the sixth putting up four runs on five hits and aggressive running around the base paths. 
  • Ellie Dubois started in the circle where she threw five innings and allowed three hits, two runs, one earned, walked two and struckout a pair.  She improved to 9-3 on the season.
  • Valdez dropped to 3-3 on the year giving up four runs and seven hits in 2 1/3 innings.
  • Charpentier had two of the four hits for the Broncos.
