Maskow Delivers 3-All Match Clinching Win In a Battle of Nationally Ranked Men's Tennis Teams

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – The No. 54-ranked Santa Clara men's tennis team won yet another 3-all match clincher, this time courtesy of freshman Lukas Maskow who delivered in the clutch against No. 69 New Mexico in a battle of nationally ranked teams.  This is the fourth time the Broncos have won a 3-all match clincher this spring, all won by different players.  In the spring opener against Cal (Jan. 21) another freshman Luca Lemaitre delivered the clincher, Christian Lerby did it against UC Davis (Feb. 10) and Alexander Watanabe Eriksson was the latest to do it against No. 53 South Florida (Feb. 24).

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • With the match knotted at 3-all, it all came down to court six between Maskow and Alex Maggs.  Maskow led 7-6 (7-5), 5-4 when a light drizzle delayed the action for about 10 minutes before play resumed and Maskow won the final game to clinch the Broncos team victory.
  • Santa Clara (8-2) has now won six matches by a score of 4-3 and its the second win in the past week that they have defeated a nationally ranked opponent.
  • New Mexico (7-3) took the doubles point after splitting the first two matches.  Playing on court three, Avery Tallakson and Rafael Abdulsalam defeated Luca Lemaitre and Alexand Watanabe Eriksson 6-4 to give the Lobos a 1-0 advantage on the team scoreboard.
  • In singles play, the Broncos turned it around winning the first three matches by Watanabe Eriksson on court five, No. 123 Guillaume Dalmasso and court two and Luca Lemaitre on court four to put the Broncos up 3-1.
  • The Lobos answered with back-to-back victories on courts three and one to even the match up at 3-al before Maskow's clincher.
