No. 58 Men's Tennis Knocks off WCC Leader Pacific 4-2

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – No. 58 Santa Clara men's tennis knocked off West Coast Conference leader and No. 47-ranked Pacific, 4-2, snapping the Tigers 14-match win streak in the process.  The Tigers entered the match atop the WCC standings with an unblemished 4-0 record in league play but the Broncos strung together four-straight singles wins to earn the team victory. 
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The battle of the nationally ranked teams started with singles matches due to threat of rain later in the afternoon. 
  • Santa Clara (15-5, 2-3 WCC) reeled off four-straight wins after dropping the first two matches with Guillaume Dalmasso coming up with the match clincher.
  • Dalmasso defeated Justas Trainauskas 3-6, 6-2, 6-4 on court two.
  • Pacific (15-2, 4-1 WCC) got off to a strong start, winning on courts five and three to jump to a 2-0 lead on the team scoreboard. 
  • On court five, Ran Amar defeated Lukas Maskow 7-5, 6-3 and on court three, Tiago Silva beat Luca Lemaitre 7-6 (9-7), 6-0.
  • No. 103-ranked Christian Lerby got things rolling for Santa Clara when he took down Peter Alam 6-1, 2-6, 6-2 atop the lineup for the first Bronco win. 
  • Sebastian Buxman leveled the match at 2-all with his 7-5, 6-3 win over Terence Das on court four.
  • SCU took a 3-2 lead on the team scoreboard when Alexander W Eriksson downed Andre Rodeia 6-1, 7-5. 
  • Dalmasso's clincher snapped SCU's three-match losing streak. 
  • The doubles matches were not played since the outcome was decided in singles play.
