SANTA CLARA, Calif. — A close game turned into a pull-away late Tuesday, as visiting Hawai'i scored seven runs in the last four innings to take a 9-3 non-conference win over the Santa Clara University baseball team at Stephen Schott Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Hawai'i (19-11) was only leading by one run, 2-1, through five innings Tuesday. It finally broke through with three runs in the sixth, another run in the seventh and an additional three-run rally in the eighth to grow its lead. Santa Clara (15-15) scored single runs in the sixth and seventh, but the Rainbow Warriors responded both times with four total runs across very next top half-innings.
Â
- A two-run double by Jordan Donahue in the sixth, a two-run single by Austin Machado in the eighth, and an RBI single from Ben Ziegler-Namoa in the seventh did most of the damage for the Rainbow Warriors.
Â
- Santa Clara wasn't without its chances in the game. It stranded seven runners and went 0 for 8 with runners in scoring position. Those totals included an RBI groundout by Coleman Brigman that got the Broncos on the board and made it 2-1 at the time.
Â
- Ben Steck hit his third homer of the year in the sixth, a solo shot, that pulled the Broncos within three at the time at 5-2. Ben Cleary doubled off the left field wall in the seventh to score Malcolm Williams from first base and pull SCU within three runs again, this time at 6-3.
