Men's Hoops Releases 2024-25 Nonconference Schedule

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Santa Clara men's basketball has officially unveiled its 13-game nonconference schedule for 2024-25. The slate consists of six home games, five neutral site contests and a pair of true road games. 

Led by Herb Sendek in his ninth season at the helm, the Broncos will begin the campaign with consecutive neutral site games beginning with a trip to Sioux Falls, S.D. to take on Saint Louis in the inaugural Field of 68 Opening Day Showcase. The one day event will feature three games at the Sanford Pentagon on Nov. 4th, the opening day of the college basketball season. The Broncos' game against Saint Louis - the first meeting between the programs since 2012 - will serve as the middle game of the trio and is set for a noon PT tip. Following their trip to South Dakota, Santa Clara will make a quick stop in Las Vegas on Nov. 8th to take on a foe that Coach Sendek is all too familiar with - the Arizona State Sun Devils. It is set to be the first meeting between the programs since 2004. 

Santa Clara's home opener will be on Nov. 13 against North Dakota State, which will serve as the first of three home games over the course of 10 days. After hosting the Bison, the Broncos will make the short trip to Reno for a true road contest against Nevada on Nov. 16 before returning to the Leavey Center to host UC Riverside (11/19) and Stanford (11/23). 

Thanksgiving week will see the Broncos head to Palm Springs for the 2024 Acrisure Invitational, a four-team tournament consisting of Santa Clara, TCU, Colorado State and Washington. The Broncos will take on TCU on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 28, at 1:00 p.m. PT and will play either Colorado State or Washington on Nov. 29. 

December begins with the final true road game of the non conference slate as the Broncos head to uncharted territory on Dec. 3 to take on McNeese State in Lake Charles, La. It will be the first-ever meeting between the Broncos and Cowboys. Santa Clara will then host Fresno State on Dec. 7 prior to another trip to Vegas to take on the Bradley Braves in a neutral-site contest in Henderson, Nev. The schedule will then wrap up with back-to-back home games against Kennesaw State (12/18) and South Dakota (12/21) to close out the slate ahead of the WCC opener on Dec. 28 at home against Pepperdine. 

Game times and television/streaming information will be announced at a later date.

GAME AND SERIES INFORMATION:

Nov. 4 vs. Saint Louis | Sioux Falls, S.D. (Field of 68 Opening Day Showcase)
  • This will be the fifth meeting all-time and the first since Nov. 14, 2012. The Broncos are 3-1 in the previous four installments. 
  • The Billikens were 13-20 overall in 2023-24. The won their opening game of the Atlantic 10 Conference Championship Tournament against Rhode Island (74-71) before falling to Duquesne in the second round. 
  • Leading scorer Gibson Jimerson returns for his final season after earning all-conference honors in 2023-24. The fifth-leading scorer in program history, he averaged 15.8 ppg last season while starting all 33 games. 
Nov. 8 vs. Arizona State | Las Vegas, Nev. 
  • The Broncos and Sun Devils will be meeting for the eighth time and for the first time in 20 years (Dec. 22, 2004). Santa Clara won the first two games of the series in 1956 and 1957, but Arizona State has had the upper hand ever since with four of their five victories coming in Tempe. 
  • The Sun Devils were 14-18 last season and split their two games against WCC opponents, winning 72-61 against San Francisco and falling at San Diego, 89-84. 
  • Arizona State will need to replace their top two scorers from the 2023-24 roster. Adam Miller is the top returning scorer at 12.0 ppg. 
  • This will be Herb Sendek's first game against the Sun Devils as the Broncos' head coach. He served as Arizona State's head coach for nine seasons (2006-15) during which team he led the team to five postseason appearances, including a pair of trips to the NCAA Tournament.
Nov. 13 vs. North Dakota State | Leavey Center
  • This will be just the second-ever meeting between programs. NDSU won the first match-up, 91-85, on Nov. 29, 2013 in Santa Clara. 
  • The Bison are coming off a 15-17 record, including an 8-8 mark in conference play in 2023-24. They won their lone game against WCC competition, taking down Portland 78-67. 
  • NDSU is also looking to replace their top two scorers from last season. Junior guard Damari Wheeler-Thomas is the leading returner at 10.7 ppg. 
Nov. 16 at Nevada | Reno, Nev. 
  • Santa Clara is 35-29 all-time against the Wolfpack and was the victor in the teams' last meeting on Nov. 16, 2021 inside the Leavey Center (96-74). The Broncos will be looking for their first win in Reno since Jan. 8, 2000. 
  • Nevada was a NCAA Tournament team in 2023-24, finishing the season with a 26-8 record. The Wolfpack fell in the opening round to seventh-seed Dayton, 63-60. 
  • Nevada has made back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances over the last two seasons. 
  • Similar to Arizona State and NDSU, Nevada will also need to replace their top two scorers from 2023-24. Nick Davidson, who was the top rebounder on the squad at 7.3 boards per game, is the top returning scorer at 12.2 ppg. 
Nov. 19 vs. UC Riverside | Leavey Center
  • This will be just the fourth meeting ever between the in-state programs. The Broncos won two of the first three outings with both coming inside the Leavey Center, the last of which on Dec. 13, 2016. 
  • UC Riverside was two wins shy of .500 last season, finishing 16-18 overall. They were 10-10 in Big West play and went 1-1 in the Big West Championship Tournament.The Highlanders fell to Portland, 76-65, in their lone game against WCC opponents. 
  • The Highlanders return both of their leading scorers from last season in the form of Barrington Hargress (12.6) and Isaiah Moses (12.2). 
Nov. 23 vs. Stanford | Leavey Center 
  • With a series dating back to 1913, Santa Clara and Stanford will be meeting on the hardwood for the 81st time in 2024. The Broncos are looking for their third consecutive victory in the series having defeated the Cardinal 88-72 in 2021 and 89-77 last season on the Farm. 
  • The Cardinal were 14-18 last season with an 8-12 mark in Pac-12 play. 
  • Stanford is in their first season under the direction of head coach Kyle Smith. 
  • The Cardinal will need to replace four of their five players that averaged 10.0 ppg or more in 2023-24, however the lone returnee of the group is a big one - Maxime Raynoud. Raynoud led the team in scoring (15.5) and rebounding (9.6), was voted the Pac-12 Most Improved Player and earned second team All-Pac-12 honors last season. 
Nov. 28 vs. TCU | Palm Springs, Calif. (Acrisure Invitational)
  •  Santa Clara has won both of the previous two meetings against TCU. The latest came just three seasons ago in an 85-66 final on Nov. 22, 2021. 
  • Like Nevada, TCU was also a NCAA Tournament Team in 2023-24, finishing the season 21-13 overall. The Horned Frogs fell to No. 20 Utah State, 88-72, in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament. 
  • The TCU roster will look vastly different from last season's squad with only one starter returning (Ernest Udeh Jr. ). They lost all five of their leading scorers including three-time All-Big 12 performer Emmanuel Miller who led the team in both scoring (15.8) and rebounding (6.1). 
Nov. 29 vs. Colorado State or Washington | Palm Springs, Calif. (Acrisure Invitational)
  • Santa Clara will play either the Rams or Huskies on the second/final day of the Acrisure Invitational. 
  • The Broncos are 1-1 all-time against Colorado State and 1-6 against Washington. 
Dec. 3 at McNeese State | Lake Charles, La. 
  • This will be the first-ever meeting between the programs. 
  • McNeese State is coming off one of their greatest seasons in program history, finishing the year 30-4, a perfect 18-0 in the Southland Conference to capture the regular season conference title, a dominating 92-76 victory in the Southland Conference Championship Game, and their fourth-ever appearance in the NCAA Tournament. 
  • The Cowboys, who broke a stretch of 13-consecutive losing seasons, tied the NCAA record for the biggest turnaround in history with a plus-19 win differential from the season prior. First year head coach Will Wade earned Southland Conference Coach of the Year honors and was a finalist for two national coach of the year awards. 
  • The Cowboys' dream season ultimately came to an end in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament with an 86-65 loss to Gonzaga. 
  • McNeese State lost conference player of the year Shahada Wells (17.8 ppg) but return their second leading scorer Christian Shumate, who nearly averaged a double-double with 12.1 points and 9.5 rebounds. 
Dec. 7 vs. Fresno State | Leavey Center
  • Santa Clara is 20-11 all-time against the Bulldogs, including an 8-2 mark at home. Fresno State, however, won the series' last meeting on Nov. 24, 2021 (59-52) in San Juan Capistrano. 
  • Fresno State was 12-21 last season. The Bulldogs nearly pulled off a massive upset in the WCC Tournament, taking No. 1 seed Utah State to overtime in the quarterfinal, but ultimately fell to the Aggies 87-75. 
  • The Bulldogs will be under the direction of first-year head coach Vance Walberg. 
Dec. 14 vs. Bradley | Henderson, Nev. (Jack Jones Classic)
  • This will be the first-ever meeting between the programs.
  • Bradley had a solid 2023-24 with a 23-12 overall record culminating in a second round appearance in the NIT where they fell to Cincinnati (74-57). 
  • The Braves return a trio of starters including second-leading scorer Duke Deen (13.9) who started all 35 games in 2023-24. 
Dec. 18 vs. Kennesaw State | Leavey Center
  • This will be the first-ever meeting between the programs.
  • Kennesaw State is coming off a 15-16 campaign in 2023-24. 
  • Junior guard Simeon Cottle is the Owls' leading returning scorer at 15.6 ppg. 
Dec. 21 vs. South Dakota | Leavey Center
  • This will be the first-ever meeting between the programs.
  • South Dakota is coming off a 12-20 record in 2023-24. 
  • Kaleb Stewart, an All-Summit League honorable mention and All-Newcomer Team pick in 2023-24, returns to led the Coyotes offense once again after averaging 15.6 ppg last season.
