BOSTON – The Santa Clara men's soccer team tallied two second half goals to complete a 2-1 comeback victory over Boston University in a nonconference match on Sunday to snap the Terriers' 16-game home unbeaten streak at Nickerson Field.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Santa Clara (2-2) trailed 1-0 midway through the second half before Florian Deletioglu and Tyler Tipton scored in an eight minute span, both on headers.
- Deletioglu delivered the equalizer in the 70th minute heading in the ball from Andrew Sullivan's pass past the diving Boston University goalkeeper Ben Alexander.
- At the 78th minute mark, an unmarked Tipton re-directed a cross from Yoni Aidlberg on the right side to the far post for the game-winning goal.
- Boston University (0-1-4) got on the scoreboard first in the 21st minute on a sliding goal by Aidan Bone. On the play, Jason Zacarias delivered a through ball to Daniel Kim into the box that Kim slid to tap it in between the Bronco defender's legs to the far post where Bone slid in and found the back of the net with his left foot.
- Bone's goal was the lone score of the first half as both teams had two shots apiece. One of those came in the opening minute for the Broncos where Alexander got a hand on Pierce Dyal's shot before it bounced off the post.
- The Terriers had a chance to double their lead in the 51st minute but Andrew Rent's 1v1 opportunity against SCU goalkeeper Jack Stoecker was turned away for one of his four saves.

POST-GAME COMMENTS:
Head Coach Cam Rast on his takeaways from the game:
"In the last couple of days since the Fordham game, we did some soul searching as a team and the coaching staff put some challenges to the players on what we needed to do. So from that perspective, it was good that we took a goal to see how we would react as we didn't handle a similar situation well against Fordham. To the credit of the players, they did a good job dealing with it today and regrouping from being down a goal. We had some decent attacking moments but we didn't have the final punch until the second half. Both Florian and Tyler stepped up, getting the ball in good spots. We saw the moment and were able to finish it off. We played with a lot of confidence after that. Stoecker also played fantastic as he steadies us and calms us. We're a bit banged up as a team but overall, it was a good performance by the team and it'll make for a better flight home."
