SANTA CLARA, Calif. - The Santa Clara women's beach volleyball team announced today the addition of University of Hawai'i transfer
Ciara Cantlen, who will join the Broncos for the upcoming 2025 season. Cantlen, a redshirt sophomore, joins the Broncos after redshirting her freshman year at Hawai'i, then failing to see any competitions last season.
A graduate of Soquel High School in Santa Cruz, Calif., Cantlen had an all-star high school career, helping lead her team to the Central Coast Section (CCS) Division IV Title, and a spot in the CIF NorCal D-III regional semifinals her senior year. She took home the Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League (SCCAL) Girls Volleyball MVP award, averaging 19 kills, 8.7 digs, 2.5 blocks and two aces per match.
Cantlen also competed in the Pacific Zone Championships in Monterey in 2017, teaming with partner Jillian Rodriguez to capture the U17 title, earned a AAA rating, and was invited to play in the USA Volleyball Beach High Performance program.
Among her many accomplishments, Cantlen is a star in the classroom who was a class valedictorian at Soquel High, and was named to the 2023 and 2024 Big West Commissioner's Honor Roll.
"We are so fortunate that Ciara chose to join the Bronco Family for the remainder of her NCAA beach career," head coach
Jeff Alzina said. "Being from Santa Cruz, I have seen her grow, develop and become a very skilled and intelligent all around player over the years. She will be a strong contributor on the court for us, and an equally important part of our loving and competitive culture we've built here."
