Women's Soccer Loses Heartbreaker to Pepperdine

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – A back-and-forth match ended in defeat for Santa Clara women's soccer as Pepperdine's last goal was the night's lone tally. Both teams created chances and with the Broncos (5-5-2, 1-1-2 WCC) seeming to have a penalty kick on a hand ball in the box that was reversed on a challenge and the Waves (7-4-1, 4-0 WCC) having a goal called back off a corner for a penalty.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Tabitha LaParl scored the lone tally in the 85th minute. Peyton Leonard sent a high pass into the box that LaParl ran under and headed inside the far post.
  • In the 49th minute the referee pointed to the spot after it appeared Pepperdine had committed a hand ball in the box but after a challenge, the call was overturned.
  • The Waves seemed to score directly off a corner in the 69th minute but the referee called it off immediately for a foul.

NOTABLE NUMBERS:
  • Santa Clara finished the night with 10 shots and put five of them on goal.
  • Pepperdine attempted 10 shots as well with eight of them going on frame.
  • The Waves drew six corners while the Broncos drew two.
  • Santa Clara was in the game until the end because of the play of Ally Reynolds in goal. She finished the night with seven saves, several spectacular and snuffed out plenty of other chances throughout the match.
