MALIBU, Calif.- Santa Clara women's volleyball lost a tough three set battle to Pepperdine Saturday, ending their seven game win streak. The loss puts the Broncos in a tie for fourth place in the West Coast Conference (WCC) standings with four games remaining in the regular season.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Broncos (15-10, 10-4) took an early 5-2 lead to open set one, but Pepperdine scored four in a row to take a 6-5 lead. The Waves did not let up from there, scoring eight of the last nine points to take set one, 25-17.
- Pepperdine (18-7, 12-2) scored three straight to go up 8-4 to open set two, and five straight to take a 19-7 lead. The Waves scored the last eight points of the set to take the second frame, 25-10.
- The third game saw the Waves score the first nine points and 12 of the first 13. From there, the Broncos found themselves in a huge hole, and were unable to recover, eventually falling 25-8 in the final set.
NOTABLE NUMBERS:
- The Broncos fall to 33-55 all-time against the Waves and have now lost 15 of the last 16 contests.
- Macy Hinshaw totaled 18 assists, keeping her double digit streak alive at 25 straight games.
