First Half Goals Lift Women's Soccer Over San Diego

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Three first half goals lifted Santa Clara women's soccer to a 3-1 victory over San Diego in the final home match of the season. The Broncos (8-6-4, 4-2-4 WCC) had two goals in the first six minutes and added another late in the first half while the Toreros (4-6-7, 1-6-3 WCC) managed just a single goal in the second half to give Santa Clara the win.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The scoring got going right away for Santa Clara. In the third minute the Broncos went the length of the field in a flash to take a 1-0 lead. Goalkeeper Ally Harrison threw a ball to Addie Whitehouse whose long pass found Kennedy Schoennauer. After a touch, she blasted her shot from outside the box and it skipped inside the far post.
  • The Broncos struck again in the sixth minute. This time it was Whitehouse who blasted a shot from just inside the box that went inside the far post.
  • San Diego nearly got on the board in the 10th after a VAR led to a penalty kick. Josefine Schlichting took the attempt and went low and to the left post, but Harrison was right there for the save.
  • In the 36th, Tori Powell sent a cross inside the six-yard box that was headed for the keeper, but a Torero defender hit it out of the air and into the net to make it 3-0.
  • San Diego got on the board in the 60th minute. A free kick went into the box and was headed to the edge of the box by the defense. Amanda Anders was waiting and blasted it into the upper right corner of the net.
