SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara women's basketball has added another transfer to next season's roster. Ava Schmidt from Northern Arizona, where new head coach Loree Payne previously coaches, is the newest Bronco to join the program.

Last season with the Lumberjacks, Schmidt appeared in 34 games off the bench, averaging 10.0 mpg. She knocked down 20 3-pointers while averaging 3.3 ppg and adding 2.6 rpg. She also finished second on the team with 20 blocks.

As a freshman, Schmidt averaged 5.1 mpg coming off the bench.

Schmidt attended Eastlake High School in Sammamish, Wash. before heading to Northern Arizona. She averaged 15.6 points as a sophomore and 15.3 per game as a junior. The 6-foot-2 forward also averaged 9.0 rpg, 2.8 bpg and 2.0 spg her senior year.
Named Eastlake's team MVP as a sophomore and junior, Schmidt earned KingCo League First Team honors as a junior, as well as WIAA All-State Tournament Second Team in 2021-22.
