Matt McCarty Qualifies For The Open Following Top Five Finish at RBC Canadian Open

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Former Santa Clara men's golfer Matt McCarty's first season on the PGA TOUR has already been one for the ages. With one victory, 10 made cuts and an impressive top-15 finish at the 2025 Masters, the Scottsdale, Ariz., product has already turned in the most successful year on the TOUR by a Santa Clara Alum in its history. On Sunday, he added yet another accomplishment to the growing list of accolades by tying for fourth at the RBC Canadian Open with a four-day total of 16-under 66-67-64-67--264. The finish was not only his best in the 2025 calendar year, but also earned him an exemption for the 153rd Open Championship at the Royal Portrush Golf Club. 

By qualifying for The Open, McCarty has a secured a spot in all four majors for the 2025 PGA TOUR season. He already has two appearances under his belt - the Masters (T14th) and the PGA Championship (missed cut) - and is set to participate in the U.S. Open this weekend, June 12-15, at historic Oakmont Country Club in Oakmont, Pa. 

McCarty will be the first Bronco Alum in history to participate at The Open Championship, the oldest and among the most prestigious golf tournaments in the world. The event will take place July 17-20, 2025.
