SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara men's golf will be well-represented at the 125
th U.S. Amateur Championship this August. Alvaro Muller,
J.P. Odland and Matt Robles each qualified for the prestigious event after locking down three of the top 11 spots at the Ruby Hill qualifying event on July 14
th.
The trio will join fellow Bronco Kevin Hollomon, an incoming transfer from Colgate, who punched his ticket to the U.S. Amateur last summer by capturing the 121
st NCGA Amateur Championship to earn an exemption. Ironically, Hollomon won the title by defeating none other than his future teammate,
J.P. Odland, 5 and 4 in a playoff.
The quartet will not have to travel far to take part in the U.S. Amateur. The event will be held just up the road at the Olympic Club in San Francisco, Aug. 11-17.
A total of 47 players participated in the Ruby Hill qualifier all vying for one of the coveted 11 guaranteed spots in the U.S. Amateur. Robles and Muller tied each other for fifth place with a 4-under 68 while Odland had to put in some extra work after finishing in a six-way tie for eighth at 3-under 69. The rising junior proceeded to a playoff where he took care of business to lock up one of the coveted positions.
This will be Odland's second time playing in the U.S. Amateur having first played in the event in 2023 just before the start of his freshman season. Santa Clara has had at least one incoming, current or former player in the U.S. Amateur field in seven of the last eight seasons dating back to 2018.
