Women's Soccer Earns Road Win at Pitt

PITTSBURGH – A couple of first half goals led Santa Clara women's soccer to a nice 2-0 win at Pittsburgh on Sunday. The Broncos (2-3) tallied early and then again midway through the first half and were able to hold off a second half push from the Panthers (4-2) to complete the shutout.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Santa Clara got the scoring going right away. Kennedy Schoennauer took on three Pitt defenders in the seventh minute and outworked them to get a shot from outside the box that slotted inside the far post.
  • The first collegiate goal by Hildi Benediktsdottir in the 29th made it a 2-0 lead for the Broncos. Leah O'Brien bodied off a defender and flipped a pass to Benediktsdottir who hit a beautiful shot into the upper-right corner of the goal.

NOTABLE NUMBERS:
  • Santa Clara finished the day with seven shots and five on goal. Pitt managed six shots, all in the second half, and put three of them on frame.
  • Both teams earned two corners.
  • Amaris Franco played the whole game in net and collected two saves. It was the first solo shutout of her career.
  • Abby Reisz finished the day with three saves for the Panthers.
