SANTA CLARA, Calif. – For the second straight game, Santa Clara men's soccer played to a draw against a ranked opponent, this time against No. 11 San Diego in the West Coast Conference opener on Saturday night.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Santa Clara (3-2-5, 0-0-1 WCC) and San Diego (6-1-3, 0-0-1 WCC) battled to a scoreless draw inside Stevens Stadium.
- The Broncos had their best scoring opportunity in the first half when the Toreros nearly gave up an own goal. On a wayward backwards pass from a defender, goalkeeper Lucca Adams had to chase after the ball and barely cleared it before the ball cross the line.
- San Diego's most dangerous chance came in the 83rd minute on a volley shot by Taj Eagleston that was turned back by Jackson Ozburn, for his second and final save of the game.
- Adams was credited with his third clean sheet of the year and it was Ozburn's fourth.
- The Toreros outshot the Broncos 11 to 7 led by Vicente Ayala with three. Gabrielius Mazonas had two shots for SCU.
NOTABLE NUMBERS / GAME NOTES:
- Santa Clara leads the series 35-18-6.
- The Broncos tied No. 16 Utah Valley 1-1 in the last match.
- SCU has now played in three straight draws.
