SAN BRUNO, Calif. – Santa Clara men's soccer goalkeeper
Jackson Ozburn was named West Coast Conference Defensive Player of the Week for the second consecutive week after an eight-save shutout outing against Saint Mary's.
The eight saves matched a career-high en route to his second straight shutout and fourth overall this season.
Against the Gaels on Saturday night, the short-handed Broncos played to a scoreless draw after a defender received a red card in the 13th minute. The defense absorbed 16 shots in the game with nine of those on frame.
Led by Ozburn, the Santa Clara defense held off 11 Saint Mary's attacking actions over a second-half stretch from the 47th through 58th minutes without conceding. Five of those shots came at around the 48th minute mark in rapid succession that included a pair of saves by Ozburn, a team save that was cleared off the underside of the crossbar and two blocks by the Broncos defense.
The Sammamish, Washington native currently leads the conference in both save percentage (.821) and goals-against-average (1.00).
This is the fifth overall weekly league honor for the senior and the second this season.
The Broncos next play at San Diego on Wednesday.
