Women's Soccer Picks Up 3-0 Win Over Denver on Senior Day

SANTA CLARA, Calif. — Santa Clara women's soccer defeated Denver 3-0 Saturday at Stevens Stadium. The Broncos (6-2-4, 2-0 WCC) finished with a 22-7 shot advantage and put eight shots on goal while limiting the Pioneers (2-6-2, 1-1 WCC) to just one chance on target.

Santa Clara built a 2-0 first-half lead, opening the scoring on Kennedy Schoennauer's penalty kick in the fourth minute after she was brought down in the box and adding Hildi Benediktsdottir's goal in the 17th minute off assists from Litsy Alcocer and Schoennauer. After the penalty, the Broncos kept pressure on Denver with five shots and three corner kicks by the 15th minute, including Alcocer's shot off the right woodwork. Ally Harrison saved Denver's lone shot on goal in the 32nd minute, and Santa Clara went into halftime ahead 2-0.

The Broncos capped the second half in the 88th minute when Mia Erba scored her first Santa Clara goal off assists from Tessa Ferguson and Benediktsdottir to make it 3-0. Earlier, Santa Clara generated three corner kicks in less than a minute and later added four shots between the 80th minute and the 87th minute, including Schoennauer's saved attempt. Denver had three shots and a corner during a late stretch, but the Broncos did not concede and finished off the 3-0 win.

Schoennauer scored the game-winning goal, added an assist, and put three of her four shots on goal. Benediktsdottir finished with a goal and an assist while taking four shots, including two on frame. Erba scored on her lone shot attempt. Harrison made one save over 83 minutes in goal without allowing a goal and was credited with the win.
