SAN BRUNO, Calif. - Santa Clara men's basketball senior forward
Elijah Mahi has been named the WCC's Men's Basketball Player of the Week for the week of Feb. 23. It is the second time Mahi has won the award this season and the third time of his Bronco Career. Additionally, this is the ninth time this season that a Bronco has won either player or freshman of the week honors, extending the program record for most winners in a single season.
Mahi earned the award following a career night in Santa Clara's 94-73 road victory over San Francisco. The Toronto native lit up the scoreboard with a career-high 30 points on 11-of-21 shooting, including three 3-pointers and a perfect 5-for-5 mark at the free throw line. The forward also pulled down seven rebounds, tied his career-high of four steals, had a pair of assists and one block in 30 minutes of work.
Mahi, who previously won
WCC Player of the Week honors on December 29, is averaging 14.4 points per game, has scored 20 or more four times and has 22 games of 10 points or more on the year. He and the Broncos have won a program-record 14 conference games and are tied for second in the WCC standings at 14-2 alongside long-time rival Saint Mary's. The Broncos and Gaels are set to face off on Wednesday, Feb. 25, at 8:00 p.m. PT in Moraga. The game will be aired live on CBS Sports Network.
With Mahi's most recent honor in tow, Santa Clara has won either the WCC's Player or Freshman of the Week Award in four consecutive weeks and six of the last seven weeks.
