SAN BRUNO, Calif. – Santa Clara University softball player Leiora Davidson was named West Coast Conference Co-Player of the Week along with Hannah Ferguson of Saint Mary's on Monday.
Davidson went 5-for-11 with a pair of home runs and six RBIs at the plate and defensively she was flawless in 37 total chances over four games.
In the WCC opening series against LMU, Davidson helped the Broncos take two of the three games for the series win. The Eastvale, California native collected two hits in Friday's series opening 5-2 win.
On Saturday, Davidson had a career day going 3-for-4 with two home runs and six RBIs in the Broncos' 10-9 series clinching victory. She slugged a solo homer in the fourth, had a two-RBI single in the fifth and blasted a three-run roundtripper in the sixth to set career highs in both home runs and RBIs. Each of her hits proved to be impactful - the solo shot tied the game at 2-all; the two-RBI hit put them up 4-2; and the second long ball pushed the lead from 7-4 to 10-4 as the runs proved to be the difference with the Broncos holding on to win by one run.
The Bronco first baseman also had 35 putouts and two assists along with one double play without committing an error.
Davidson is the third Bronco to earn a weekly conference recognition this season but the first to be named Player of the Week. Ellison Schroeder and Cari Ferguson won back-to-back WCC Pitcher of the Week honors on March 2 and 9.
The Broncos next play a three-game series in the WCC home opener against Oregon State starting Thursday.
