Box Score NORMAN, Okla. — The Santa Clara University baseball team pushed No. 14/10 Oklahoma Sunday in the teams' series finale, scoring six runs on seven hits, including a five-RBI performance from
Tate Medicoff, but the Sooners held on late to preserve an 8-6 non-conference win at Kimrey Family Stadium.
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Medicoff finished 2 for 4 with his first home run of the season, a two-run double and a caree-high five RBIs, driving in all but one of Santa Clara's (5-9) six runs in the contest. Medicoff's two-run shot in the second inning cut the Sooners' (14-2) early three-run lead down to one. His two-run double in the fourth tied the game at 4-4.
Â
- The Broncos took advantage of free base runners in the fourth to pull even. Max Ross and Luke Devine were both hit by pitches to begin the inning, and Will Anderson laid down a bunt single to load the bases. Medicoff then doubled to left center, driving in two runs to tie the game at 4–4.
Â
- Oklahoma regained the lead with three runs in the fifth inning, highlighted by an RBI triple and a pair of run-scoring doubles. Santa Clara pushed back in the eighth. Ross was hit by another pitch and Devine followed with a single before Anderson worked a walk to load the bases. Medicoff brought home his fifth RBI of the game on a fielder's choice, and Waylon Walsh singled up the middle to drive in another, cutting the deficit to 7–6.
Â
- Devine finished 2 for 3 with two runs scored, while Anderson added a hit and a walk as the Broncos drew three walks and were hit by pitches five times. Â Oklahoma added an insurance run in the seventh on a sacrifice fly before the Broncos threatened in the ninth with a single and an error, putting two runners on base and bringing the go-ahead run to the plate. Oklahoma escaped the jam by turning a double play to end the game.
