Beach Volleyball Dominates Hawaii Pacific to Start Trip to Islands

Noelle Niederman teamed with Ciara Cantlen to limit their opponents to fewer than 10 points in both sets at the No. 3 pairs Friday.
HONOLULU — The Santa Clara University beach volleyball kicked off its weekend trip to Hawaii Friday with a 5-0 sweep of Hawaii Pacific, winning all five pairs in straight sets and holding the Sharks to single digits in six of the ten sets played at the Clarence T.C. Ching Athletics Complex.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Kawena Chillingworth and Reilly Rose Gilliland wasted no time at the 5s, overwhelming Elle Acchione and Aliyah Baker, 21-7, 21-3, allowing only 10 combined points across both sets. Ciara Cantlen and Noelle Niederman were equally dominant at the 3s, holding Alayna Grinstead and Jordyn McCutcheon to single digits in both sets en route to a 21-9, 21-7 victory. Ava Stoddard and Alexandra Urbina kept the pressure on at the 4s, dispatching Peyton McBride and Olivia Tangaan, 21-10, 21-7.

  • Mandy Hansen and Sammy Wood took care of Jordan Pascone and Lindsey Tapp at the 2s, 21-10, 21-12, before Avery Cukjati and Teagan Wilson closed out the sweep at the No. 1 pairs against Rosie Larkin and Ella Schoene, 22-20, 21-18, with the first set going to extra points.
