Schroeder Named WCC Softball Pitcher of the Week for Second Time This Season

SAN BRUNO, Calif. – For the second time this spring, Ellison Schroeder has been named West Coast Conference Softball Pitcher of the Week with a complete game victory and a save to help Santa Clara sweep Seattle U over the weekend and keep the Broncos championship hopes alive.

Schroeder allowed two earned runs over 11 innings for a 1.27 ERA while striking out seven in her two appearances.

In the series opener on Friday, the freshman hurler threw 155 pitches in a seven inning complete game effort in the Broncos' 7-2 win.  She scattered four hits, two runs, one earned, walked four and struck out four to pick up her 11th win of the season.

And in Sunday's series finale, she got the start in the circle and went three innings before getting replaced by Cari Ferguson with a 3-2 lead.  After the team rallied from two runs down in the seventh to take a 7-6 lead, Schroeder came in relief and threw a scoreless seventh to earn her third save of the season.

Santa Clara will now face league leader Saint Mary's in a three-game series starting Thursday needing to sweep the Gaels to claim a share of the WCC Championship and get the automatic qualifier for the NCAA Tournament.

This is the second WCC weekly honor for Schroeder and the fourth overall recognition this season for a Bronco player.
