Men's Soccer Falls to Cal 1-0

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara men's soccer fell to Cal 1-0 on a second half goal by Junhwan Park on Thursday evening at Stevens Stadium to drop their first game of the season while the Bears (1-0-1) picked up their first win.  
 
HOW IT HAPPENED: 

  • Park tallied the lone goal of the match in the 79th minute when he received the ball from Brendan Bell just inside the box, faked a shot to get two Bronco defenders off balance, cut inside with a dribble before firing off a shot to the far post past goalkeeper Jackson Ozburn.  
  • The goal came a couple of minutes after the Broncos had a golden opportunity when Josmar Guandique's header missed just wide of the goal.  
  • Cal got off 11 shots with seven of those on frame.  Ozburn made six saves including a diving stop against Kai Oppenheim in the 53rd minute to keep the game scoreless.
  • In the first half, two of the four shots by Cal were on target including one by Adrian Jacobs in the 15th minute.
  • Cal maintained pressure with two more shots, one by Malcolm Zalayet in the 26th minute and another by Kieran Bracken Serra in the 28th minute, both missing out right.
  • In the 38th minute, Finley Reynolds had a shot saved again by Ozburn.  
  • SCU (2-1-0) managed two late attempts, with Andrew Sullivan missing the target in the 40th minute and Bradley Roberson shooting wide left in the 42nd minute as the half ended without a goal.  
  • Gabrielius Mazonas had two attempts for SCU, with a shot blocked in the 56th minute and another saved by Adam Salama in the 54th minute, who had three in the game to earn a shutout.
