SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Santa Clara women's soccer defeated Fresno St. 4-0 on Sunday at Stevens Stadium. The Broncos (3-2-3) scored three times in the second half and finished with a season-high 21 shots with nine on target.
Lexie Douglass put Santa Clara ahead in the sixth minute, scoring off Hildi Benediktsdottir's assist for a 1-0 lead. Santa Clara generated another push midway through the half with a corner and saved shots from Jalana Kimber before Aoi Kataoka missed high. Ally Harrison made three saves, and the Broncos took the 1-0 advantage into halftime.
Santa Clara pulled away in the second half, with Kennedy Schoennauer scoring off Tessa Ferguson's assist in the 60th minute before Rylan Cashman and Amma Melton added late goals to finish a 4-0 win. The Broncos' four goals marked a season-high for the team.
Along withe game-winner, Douglass finished with three shots and two on goal. Schoennauer scored and led Santa Clara with six shots, putting two on frame. Cashman scored an unassisted goal on her lone shot and Melton's goal was the first of her collegiate career. Harrison recorded a 90-minute shutout with four saves.Â
Jessica Reiss played all 90 minutes in goal for the Bulldogs (1-6-1) and recorded five saves. Mariona Sene Corominas shared Fresno State's team lead with two shots, putting one on goal. Tatiana Saunders also tallied two shots, including one on goal.
Up next, Santa Clara travels to San Antonio to face UTSA on Thursday at 5 p.m.
