SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Santa Clara women's soccer lost to No. 1 Stanford 4-0 on Sunday at Stevens Stadium. The Broncos (2-2-3) generated nine of their 10 shots in the second half but were held without a goal.
Santa Clara spent the first half chasing after the Cardinal (6-0-1) scored three times, with Charlotte Kohler opening the scoring and Jaden Thomas adding two goals. Jacey Martinez put the Broncos' lone recorded shot on goal in the 16th minute, followed by a corner kick, and Santa Clara also earned a corner in the 35th minute. Ally Harrison made four saves, including three in the final six minutes, as the Broncos reached halftime down 3-0.
Stanford added to Santa Clara's deficit in the 51st minute, when Jaden Thomas scored off Sadie Leal-Schuman's assist to make it 4-0. The Broncos created chances after that, including Kennedy Schoennauer hitting the top woodwork in the 69th minute and Addie Whitehouse hitting the left woodwork in the 86th minute. The Broncos held a 9-6 advantage in shots in the second half, including 3-2 in shots on target.
Whitehouse shared the team lead with four shots and put one attempt on goal. Schoennauer also finished with four shots, including one on frame. Harrison started in goal and recorded four saves over 45 minutes. Maysen Veronda made her Santa Clara debut and played the second half with one save.
Jaden Thomas recorded a hat trick and added an assist, putting all four of her shots on goal. Charlotte Kohler scored and finished with three shots, including two on frame. Sadie Leal-Schuman tallied two assists and added two shots. Rhiannon Stewart played all 90 minutes in goal and made four saves while recording a shutout.
