SANTA CLARA, Calif.- After finishing second place in the WCC last season, the Santa Clara women's basketball team will look to compete for their second straight postseason berth after advancing to the second round of the inaugural WBIT last season.
The Broncos return four players from last year's squad including All-WCC Preseason Team selection senior forward Olivia Pollerd. Pollerd averaged 14.7 ppg, 4.6 rpg and 1.6 apg for the Broncos last season, earning First Team All-WCC honors. The Broncos also return sophomore guard Maddie Naro, who was picked to the 2023-24 All-WCC Freshman Team, junior forward Georgia Grigoropoulou, and senior guard Malia Latu.
The Broncos have a different look from last season, bringing in eight newcomers to the squad highlighted by graduate guard Kaya Ingram, who started all 26 games for Cornell last season, leading the team with 30.5 mpg, 10.5 ppg, and 3.1 apg.Â
The Broncos also brought in graduate forward Irena Korolenko, who played in all 28 games at Seattle a season ago with 26 starts. She averaged 29.2 mpg, 8.3 ppg, 6.3 rpg, and 1.5 apg, finishing third on the team in points and assists, and second in rebounds. Â
Rounding out the newcomers is graduate guard Mia Curtis, who played in 26 games last season for Dartmouth, finishing third on the team with 6.9 ppg and second with 1.7 apg. She led the team in steals and scored in double figures five times last season.Â
Also new to the Broncos this season is Northwestern transfer Alana Goodchild, two-sport Bronco athlete Lauren Grover, who stars on the Broncos women's volleyball team, Saint Mary's transfer Hannah Rapp, freshman guard Sheya Welty, and junior guard Gabby Harris.Â
The Broncos will open the 2024-25 season tomorrow night at home in the Leavey Center against Hawaii Pacific in an exhibition scheduled for 6 p.m. They will open the regular season at home on Monday, Nov. 4 at 6 p.m. against UC Riverside.
