SPOKANE, Wash. - Santa Clara University won its second straight over host Gonzaga University in Spokane, beating the Zags 7-3 Saturday behind a complete-game victory from senior starter Alex Rivers. The Broncos scored six times in the first three innings to spot Rivers an early lead.

Santa Clara (17-23; 3-10 WCC) won for the 17th time and claim its first West Coast Conference series of 2010. SCU will go for the sweep when the series resumes Sunday at 1 p.m. Shortstop Evan Peters went 3-for-3, one of six Broncos to collect two or more hits.

Gonzaga (14-30-1; 2-8-1 WCC) starter Liam Baron (0-6) lasted just two-plus innings, allowing 11 hits and six runs. The Zags - defending WCC Champions - fall behind SCU in the league standings.

The Bronco offense followed yesterday's 15-run, 19-hit performance with 16 hits Saturday. Patrick Terry and Pat Stover each went 2-for-3. Geoff Klein, Blake Leyva and Matt Ozanne also had two singles.

Rivers (3-6) scattered 10 hits through all nine innings to post his third complete game of the season. Rivers lowered his season ERA to 4.40, striking out five while walking just two.
