SCU Softball Wraps Up SJSU Super Series; Set to Host Doubleheader Wednesday

SAN JOSE, Calif. – Jamie Wallis went 5 for 10 and Kelly Scribner drove in four runs over the weekend, but Santa Clara University softball was unable to come away with a victory at the 'SJSU Super Series' at Spartan Stadium.

Following two losses on Saturday, the Broncos dropped decisions of 8-2 versus Southern Utah (9-8) and 9-5 against San Jose State (10-11) on Sunday.

Santa Clara (3-16) will try and bounce back Wednesday night, when the team hosts James Madison (6-7) at PAL Stadium in San Jose. The doubleheader is slated to begin at 5 p.m. and fans can follow the action via live stats on SantaClaraBroncos.com.

The Broncos piled up 10 hits in the morning game with Southern Utah, getting two hits apiece from Wallis, Alyssa Jepsen, Briana Knight and Breezy Bernard, but Thunderbird starter Danielle Axe (3-2) was able to work out of trouble and limit SCU to just one run through five innings.

Carissa Theis (2-4) worked three complete innings, allowing three earned runs on five hits before Jessica Turner came on in the fourth with the Broncos trailing 4-1. Both RBI's in the game with Southern Utah were provided by Wallis, who has upped her season batting average to .412.

Following the loss to SUU, weekend host San Jose State established a 5-1 lead after two innings and went on to beat Santa Clara 9-5. Scribner hit her team-leading third homerun of the season during a two-run SCU fifth inning, after SJSU had pushed its lead out to 9-3 in the fourth.

Briana Rios (1-4) was tagged with the loss for Santa Clara, working an inning and two thirds before freshman classmate Jaymi Bautista-Geiger came on out of the pen. For SJSU, it was Madison Fish (2-0) scattering three hits over five innings of relief to go down as the pitcher of record for the Spartans.
