Box Score SANTA CLARA, Calif. – On the final day of the 2015 Santa Clara Marriott Bronco Classic, Santa Clara softball fell to Idaho State by a final of 12-0. The Broncos are now 3-12 on the season.
Santa Clara returns to the field Fri., Feb 27 at 5 p.m. vs. Howard in the Santa Clara Invitational.
Ciara Gonzales (3-5) started for Santa Clara and picked up a loss in 2.0-plus innings. Gonzales allowed four runs, three earned, on six hits with a strikeout. Casandra Padilla was 1-3 with a double to lead the offense. Four other Broncos collected one hit each.
Ashlyn Ames (1-2) started for Idaho State and picked up a win in the complete game. Ames allowed five hits with four strikeouts. Hailey Breakwell was 3-4 with a triple, a double, three RBI, and a run scored to lead the offense. Kacie Burnett was 3-5 with a triple, two runs scored, and an RBI while Vicky Galasso was 3-5 with a double, two runs scored, and an RBI.
After two quick outs to start the game, Vicky Galasso doubled to left center and Hailey Breakwell followed with an RBI triple to right field that gave the Bengals the early 1-0 lead. Maddy Hickman kept the inning going with an RBI double down the right field line before a groundout ended the frame.
Dara Kolar started the top of the second with a fly ball to center that fell in for a two base error. Katelyn Marquez followed with a soft liner that just found the outfield grass. She swiped second with the throw going into center field to allow the run to come across. With one out Marquez swiped third and came in on a two-out RBI triple down the right field line.
A two out single and stolen base by Ellie Fisher put her on second. Padilla reached on an error that put runners on the corners but a fielder's choice ended the inning with the score still 4-0.
The Bengals added a run in the fourth on a bases loaded error and two more in the fifth to stretch their lead out to 7-0.
Santa Clara go back-to-back singles by Geenamarie Bonilla and Gianetta France in the bottom of the sixth with two down but were unable to score.
Idaho State loaded the bases with no one out in the top of the seventh and added five more runs to pad the lead. In the bottom of the inning Santa Clara went down in order.
