Baseball Loses to Washington on Monday

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Washington collected 17 hits to beat Santa Clara baseball, 11-1 on a wet Monday afternoon at Stephen Schott Stadium.  
 
Washington (16-15), which advanced to the 2018 College World Series, jumped on Santa Clara starter Locke Bernhardt (2-2) early, scoring five runs on four hits in the first inning.  Along with wielding hot bats, the Huskies took advantage of nine walks issued by the Broncos along with three fielding errors to put up 11 runs but with only four of them earned.
 
Huskies right-fielder Connor Blair went 5-for-5 with two RBIs to lead five players with multiple hits and four players with two runs batted in.
 
Starter Jack DeCooman and two relievers, Jack Enger (2-0) and Stevie Emanuels combined to hold the Broncos to four hits and one run while walking two and striking out nine.
 
The Broncos (7-27) lone run came in the second when Dawson Brigman tripled and came home on Cam Allie's sacrifice fly.
 
Freshman catcher Ben McKnight made his Bronco debut pinch-hitting in the ninth inning.

Santa Clara hosts a West Coast Conference series against Gonzaga this Thursday to Saturday.
