SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Kyle Stowers and Brandon Wulff each smacked two-run homers and Alex Williams yielded just two hits over seven innings to lead second-ranked Stanford to a 7-1 victory over Santa Clara baseball on Tuesday.

Wulff greeted Santa Clara reliever Alex Tisminezky in the third inning by launching his 16th home run of the season with Maverick Handley aboard after a walk.

The following inning, Stowers, who had two hits, extended the lead to 5-0 with his fifth homer of the season. With Nick Bellafronto aboard with double, he sent a two-out, 2-1 pitch from Tisminezky over the right field wall.

The Cardinal (32-7), which has won eight of the last nine, scratched out two more runs in the fifth off Julian Tristan, one of six relievers utilized by the Broncos (10-32), on sacrifice fly by Andrew Daschbach and a passed ball.

Williams (5-1) did not walk a batter and tossed only 74 pitches (55 for strikes) in earning the win. The lone blemish was Ryan McCarthy's third home run of the season in the fifth inning.

Santa Clara starter Brandon Buckley (1-1), who surrendered just one run in his two innings of work, suffered the loss.

McCarthy had two of Santa Clara's three hits, though Stanford was only able to muster six of its own. Stowers was the only Cardinal with multiple hits.

The Broncos will begin a three-game West Coast Conference series with San Diego on Friday. First pitch is at 6 p.m. The teams will meet again on Saturday and Sunday.
