SAN DIEGO - Three UC San Diego hurlers combined to limit Santa Clara baseball to one run on four hits in the Tritons 3-1 win over the Broncos on Friday to even the four-game series at one-all.

Starter Cameron Leonard threw 5 1/3 scoreless innings to pick up the win, striking out six batters without issuing a walk.  Luke Mattson earned the save with his 3 1/3 innings of work after relieving Izaak Martinez.

Paul Gozzo had a game-high three hits for UCSD while Jason Dicochea and Mike Bowes were the only Broncos with hits, each hitting two.

UCSD (2-8) picked up a run in the second and the fourth frame against Bronco starter Freddie Erlandson, first on a solo home run by Blake FitzGerald and on an RBI sacrifice fly by Devon Hawks to take a 2-0 lead.

In the sixth, Santa Clara (5-8) cut the Triton lead in half on an RBI single by Mike Bowes, taking advantage of a pair of walks issued by Martinez.

The Broncos put the potential tying run in scoring position in the eighth when Dicochea singled and Jake MacNichols walked but Mattson struck out Bowes to end the threat.

The Tritons added an insurance run in the home half of the eighth on Gozzo's RBI base hit off Alex Waldsmith who was brought in after Holden Bernhardt gave up a two out single to Blake Baumgartner and a walk to FitzGerald.
