LOS ANGELES – A late rally lifted USC to a 7-5 win over Santa Clara baseball on Saturday afternoon in the second game of a three-game set.

The Broncos (0-2) were in control after a four-run sixth and had made the score 5-2 heading to the bottom of the eighth before the Trojans (2-0) bats came to life with five runs.

The entire rally started with an error followed by two singles and a walk. Santa Clara was still up 5-3 when Drake Davis struck out Garret Guillemette for the second out of the inning but Tyler Lozano came through with a grand slam to cap the inning.

Trevor Halsema also added a pair of hits and an RBI for the Trojans with Carson Wells scoring two runs and taking a pair of walks.

Tyler Stromsborg started and posted 5 shutout innings with five hits and four strikeouts before the bullpen gave up the lead. Matt Keating (1-0) was the beneficiary of the late offense, picking up the win in 1 1/3 innings while striking out three.

The Santa Clara bats woke up in the top of the sixth with four runs. Matt Jew started things with a leadoff home run against Nate Clow and RBI singles in the inning by Mike Mugan and Michael O'Hara as well as a bases loaded walk to Dawson Brigman, accounted for the scoring.

After the Trojans got on the board with two in the seventh, the Broncos came back with a two-out rally that saw Jew double in another run.

Jew finished the day 3-for-5 with a double and a home run to go with two RBIs. Eamonn Lance also added three hits and a walk with Mugan collecting a pair of hits and scoring a run.

Skylar Hales was terrific in the start, allowing just two hits and a walk while fanning six but took the no-decision. Davis (0-1) was credited with the loss in 2/3 of an inning. He gave up four runs on three hits with a walk and a strikeout.
