SAN JOSE, Calif. - Santa Clara beach volleyball kicked off the 2022 campaign with a pair of wins on Friday, sweeping Ottawa (Arizona) 5-0 and edging out Utah 3-2 at the Spartan Beach Volleyball Courts on the campus of San José State.  

In the morning session, the Broncos only dropped set to defeat Ottawa with the clincher coming on court three.  The tandem of Claire Doud and Sophia Tulino defeated Mattea Wilson and Katelyn Viray, 14-21, 21-16 and 15-13.  

The Broncos played their second match against Utah and with the team score knotted at 2-all, Casey Campbell and Alexia Gallegos cruised to a 21-15, 21-6 victory over Kylie Pitzak and Stef Jankiewicz to clinch the match.  

The top two flights of Alexia Inman/Nicole Robison along with Michelle Shaffer/Joran Bennett won both their matches as did the No. 5 duo of Campbell and Gallegos.

Santa Clara plays Concordia-Irvine at noon and San José State at 3 p.m. on Saturday at the Spartan Beach Volleyball Courts.
