Women's Soccer Signs Five During Early Signing Period

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara women's soccer has added five players to the class of 2024 during the NCAA's early signing period. Manaka Hayashi, Isabelle DeBuyl, Tessa Ferguson, Ava Weiland, and Daniela Cervantes will join the Broncos roster next season. Hayashi and Cervantes will join the Broncos for the winter quarter.
 
This part of the recruiting class features talent from all over the country and the globe. Two signees come from the Midwest with another coming from Japan and one from Spain as well a more local student-athlete from California.
 
Manaka Hayashi | M | 5-4 | Hyogo, Japan | Futaba Future High School
 
Hayashi was part of the Japanese U20 FIFA Women's World Cup team that was runner-up in Costa Rica. She was also the captain of the Japanese U19 National Team in France in the summer of 2023.
 
 She has won five All Japan Women's Soccer Tournaments. In 2018 and 2019 she won the tournament with the U15 team and from 2020-22 she won the tournament with the U18 squad.
 
Hayashi was also on the U16 team that won the AFC U16 Women's Championship in Thailand and played with the U13 and U14 Japan National select.
 
In her free time, she enjoys singing, going out to eat, and watching movies and sports.
 
Isabelle DeBuyl | D | 5-8 | Kansas City, Kan. | Blue Valley Northwest High School
 
DeBuyl helped lead Kansas City Athletics ECNL to the ECNL Midwest Championship in 2022 when she was named ECNL National Select. DeBuyl was named First Team All-Midwest ECNL from 2020-22. She led her ECNL team in a number of categories including: ball recoveries, accurate passes, challenges won, dribbling success, and tackling success.
 
Her mother played soccer at Creighton and her father played at Union Saint Gilloise in Belgium.
 
In her free time, DeBuyl enjoys live music, traveling to new countries, and beach vacations.
 
Tessa Ferguson | D | 5-8 | Granite Bay, Calif. | Granite Bay High School
 
Ferguson played club for San Juan ECNL from 2018-23 and in 2018 the team were Surf Cup champions.
 
She was with PDP from 2019-12 and on the 2021 and 2022 PDP State Pool Roster while also making the PDP NorCal Premier Final Roster in 2023. The team was a finalist in the Gothia Cup. Ferguson was also at US Soccer YNT ID camp in 2019.
 
At Granite Bay High School, Ferguson was named First Team Northwestern Conference as a sophomore. The team were San Joaquin Section Division II finalists and Northern California Division II State finalists.
 
She has worked as a Granite Bay High School Kids Soccer Camp coach.
 
In her free time, Ferguson enjoys traveling, skiing, wake surfing, and working out.
 
Ava Weiland | D | 5-8 | Prairie Village, Kan. | Shawnee Mission East High School
 
Weiland was named ECNL Midwest Conference Second Team for the 2021-22 season as her team captured a conference title. In 2022, she also was in the KC Current Camp and a KC Current 2 League player while playing against the Chinese National Reserve team.
 
As a sophomore in high school, Weiland played in the Kansas All-Star Game and was Mo-Kan All-Tournament Team. She was named 6A All-State Second Team and Second Team All-Sunflower League for the second year in a row. As a freshman, her team were runners-up for the state championship.
 
In the classroom, Weiland was a member of the National Honors Society and on the school's honor roll all four years.
 
She worked as a Shawnee Mission East Youth Soccer Camp coach and was the manager for the boys' soccer team in 2021.
 
In her free time, Weiland enjoys hiking, cooking and baking, and lifting and running.
 
Daniela Cervantes | M | 5-5 | Barcelona, Spain | Benjamin Franklin International School
 
Cervantes' club team were league champions of R.C.D. Espanyol de Barcelona four times from 2018-21. During the 2019-20 campaign, the team won an important tournament in China and Sweden.
 
The 2021-22 season saw Cervantes with C.E. Europa where she was the second highest scorer on the team while playing as a midfielder. They made it to the Regional Cup final and she was selected to play in the U17 Spanish National Championship.
 
She is currently with C.E. Europa again with the U19 team and has made her official debut with the first team in the Spanish Second Division. Cervantes made her First Team debut as a starter in The Queen's Cup against SDEibar, a first division team and played all 90 minutes.
 
Cervantes has done soccer training with young refugees and immigrants and taught immigrants in residential housing how to cook healthy meals.
 
In her free time, she enjoys playing guitar, camping, skiing, and surfing.
