Box Score LAS VEGAS – Santa Clara baseball is on to the semifinals of the West Coast Conference Tournament after a 15-3 win over second-seeded Portland Thursday night.
Down 2-0 four batters into the game, the Broncos (33-18) offense would explode for three runs in the third and four more in the fourth to take control of the game. They would add single runs in the fifth and seventh before putting things away with a six-spot in the ninth.
Coleman Brigman was the offensive star, finishing with a home run, a double, a run scored, and five RBIs. His two-run home run put the Broncos on top 3-2 in the fourth, a lead that would never disappear. Dawson Brigman, Michael O'Hara, and Efrain Manzo all had three hits with JonJon Berring and Eamonn Lance both contributing multi-hit games as well. Ben Steck added a grand slam to cap the big ninth inning.
August Souza (1-2) came out of the bullpen and tossed the final 5 1/3 innings for the win. He allowed a run on four hits with two walks and three strikeouts. Starter Cole Kitchen allowed two runs on four hits with a walk and three strikeouts while taking a no-decision.
The Pilots (29-22) big blast was a two-run home run off the bat of Nich Klemp in the first. He would finish the game with two hits and score two runs with Evan Scavotto adding two hits and a run scored as well.
Starter Joey Gartrell (5-5) got hung with the loss in 3 1/3 innings of work. He gave up five runs on seven hits with two walks and three strikeouts.
