Box Score 2 CLAREMONT, Calif. - Santa Clara's women's water polo team couldn't secure a win on the opening day of the Claremont Convergence Tournament, contending against both No. 7 UCI and Villanova. Kate Rodman notably impressed in the first match, scoring three goals with Malaya Wright and Megan Chambliss finding two a piece against Villanova.
Game one: UCI 19, Santa Clara 5
HOW IT HAPPENED:

Kate Rodman wasted no time, scoring just 45 seconds into the game with an assist from Maddie Clough. She continued her momentum with another goal, giving the Broncos a 2-0 lead, which proved to be their only lead of the game.

No. 7 UCI dominated the first half, keeping the Broncos scoreless while keeping a 11-2 lead.

Despite UCI extending their lead, Rodman managed to score again with 6:38 remaining in the third period, narrowing the score to 12-3. Shortly after, Chambliss capitalized on a power play, assisting Chloe Morrison for another goal, reducing it to 12-4. Francesca Moynihan contributed the Broncos' final goal of the period, bringing the score to 13-5 by the end of the third quarter.

UCI added three more goals to secure the 19-5 victory, shutting out the Broncos for the remainder of the game.
Game two: Villanova 10, Santa Clara 9
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Villanova took the lead on the scoreboard within the opening minute of the game and maintained their dominance over the Broncos until the conclusion of the first period, securing a 2-1 advantage.
- Chambliss connected with Sydney Maccabe for a goal, leveling the score at 2-2 midway through the second period. Following a Villanova response, Libby Slater equalized once more, making it 3-3. However, just as the Broncos seemed poised for a tie, Villanova surged ahead to lead 4-3 at halftime
- Heading into the third period, Villanova tallied three more before Clough scored one, closing the gap to 7-4. The third period ended at a score with the Broncos down 9-5.
- The final minutes of the fourth period witnessed the action of the game. Morrison scored a goal, followed by two from Wright, narrowing the score to 10-9. Despite their efforts to force overtime, the Broncos fell short.
