SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – For the second straight week, a Santa Clara softball player has garnered a West Coast Conference weekly award as sophomore two-way star Hazyl Gray was named WCC Player of the Week.
Over the weekend, Gray had a monstrous series against Pacific, going 9-for-13 with three home runs and 12 RBIs to help the Broncos take the series, winning three out of four games. Five of the nine hits went for extra bases as she posted a slash line of .692/.733/1.538
On Friday, in the series opening doubleheader, Gray hit a combined 7-for-7 with a pair of doubles and home runs while driving in nine runs. In the first game, she brought in the go-ahead run with a two RBI single to break a 1-all tie in a game the Broncos won 4-1. In the second game, she hit two three-run home runs in the 15-5 victory.
The next day, Gray drove in the first run of the game and added a two-run home run later in the game in a 12-0 blowout.
Gray leads the team with a .340 batting average, eight home runs and tied for first in RBIs with 37 while posting a 3-4 record with two complete games and a save inside the circle.
It is the first such honor for Gray. Last week, Hannah Edwards was named WCC Pitcher of the Week.
The Broncos play the final regular season series this week, hosting San Diego starting on Thursday.
